Shopify vs Shopify Plus: 5 differences you need to know

Shopify vs Shopify Plus?

Choosing the right plan is important for your business. After all, you don’t want to be overpaying for irrelevant features or missing out on features that could boost your business’ performance.

Shopify Plus is flexible and user-friendly, it comes with dedicated apps and account managers, more customisation options, and so much more. But is the plan right for your business?

If you’re trying to decide which Shopify plan is right for you, we’ve made this article detailing 5 differences between Shopify and Shopify Plus that you need to know.

Let’s get started.

1. Shopify vs Shopify Plus: Pricing, Processing Fees, and Transaction Fees

Shopify offers a number of plans for all types and sizes of businesses.

As of 2022, the plans are as follows:

  • Shopify Lite $9 per month
  • Shopify Basic $29 per month, with 2.9% + 30c per online transaction.
  • Shopify $79 per month, with 2.6% + 30c per transaction.
  • Advanced Shopify $299 per month, with 2.4% + 30c per transaction.
  • Shopify Plus:
$2000+ per month, +2.15% per transaction.

💡 If your revenue is between $0 and $800,000, Shopify will charge a flat $2,000.

💡 If your revenue exceeds $800,000 per month, Shopify will charge an extra 0.25% of store sales per month.

💸 This means there is a pricing floor of $2,000 per month and a pricing ceiling of $40,000 per month.

When choosing a plan, it’s important to consider the features you need, your current revenue, and your plans for the future. With that in mind, which is the right plan for your business?

Luckily for you, there is a Shopify Fee Calculator to help you identify the most cost-efficient plan for your business. Simply input your revenue and toggle whether you use or don’t use Shopify payments.

A good rule of thumb, however: Shopify is for small and medium-sized businesses, whereas Shopify Plus is for enterprise-level businesses.

2. Customisation

Standard Shopify Plans give you the option to customise your Shopify theme templates using the editor.

With Shopify Plus, you gain access to Shopify’s theme language, Liquid. With Liquid, you have more customisation options and can even alter code in the backend.

3. Dedicated Account Manager

Support is available to Shopify users via phone, email, and live chat. There is also an option to hire a Shopify Expert if you require specialist support.

Shopify Plus users have dedicated support managers called Launch Managers/Engineers. Their role is to educate merchants, share best practices, provide training, and facilitate store set-up.

4. Unlimited Staff Accounts

Shopify is fairly limited when it comes to staff accounts. The basic plan only allows you to add a few staff members.

Shopify Plus, however, allows you to add unlimited staff accounts and control additional permission settings. This gives you more opportunities to delegate the operation of your business so you can focus on other things.

5. Checkout Control

Shopify Plus gives your more control over your checkout. You are able to personalise the experience based on shopping cart values and other conditions.

Furthermore, Shopify Script Editor gives you the power to fine-tune and customise ecommerce operations, including shipping methods, customer fields, and payment options.
